Bullfights are unequal combat. The skill and courage of the matador is celebrated by thankfully an ever diminishing group of people. The matador is surrounded by a team of people to taunt, wound, and bleed the bull, and save the matador if the bull gets too close. What is certain is that the bull will die in the ring. About 40 years ago in Arles, France when we were assured that no bulls would be killed in a local bullfight we attended. The resulting pictures document the torture of the bulls fueled by a testosterone fueled sense of skill and valor.
