While we can all hope that Mr. Trump can control his statements that risk the safety of jurors, witnesses, court and public safety employees, prosecutors and judges, if he chooses to violate conditions of bail and orders of the court we can rest assured that the federal government already has a network of small, prison facilities for prisoners who would be at risk in a general prison population and people in witness protection who need protection when providing testimony that could cause safety concerns.
These prisons are small, usually on a campus with other prisons and are very secure. One such secure prison is in New Jersey, but there are others because these somewhat secluded prisons must be convenient to federal courts. With modest renovations to provide Secret Service personnel with space for breaks and supervision of Mr. Trump and simple coordination with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, people who present a clear threat to others and the process of securing fair trials can be locked up even with Secret Service personnel continuing their protective role.
So, let us all be clear. If Mr. Trump continues to violate the law and the legal requirements imposed by the court, he can be domiciled in a place where his threats will only go as far as his cell walls.
